GBS - Plovdiv laid the foundations for the new industrial zone in Burgas
GBS - Plovdiv laid the foundations of the new industrial zone in Burgas, with the opening of the largest production base for armored vehicles in the world, owned by the international company International Armored Group (IAG). The production plant took a year and a half to build.
In addition to the armored vehicles manufacturing base, accompanying infrastructure (such as connecting roads) has also been built. This will support the development of the new industrial zone, increase jobs and develop the region located on the Black Sea coast.
The new base has a sprawling surface of over 150,000 square meters and is worth over 10 million euros. It will produce various types of armored vehicles, drones for rescue, reconnaissance and emergency teams, military cranes for evacuation and patrol cars, as well as and the fourth generation of the RILA 8x8 infantry fighting vehicle, as well as the Guardian Extreme MRAP and Ford F350 trucks.
In addition to manufacturing equipment for the Bulgarian armed forces, the company will also export armored equipment for international markets.
IAG is well-known as a major manufacturer of armored vehicles for government-level organizations including the UN, NATO, Bundeswehr and others, and a year ago SpaceX chose its Sentinel ARV armored vehicles to transport astronauts to the launch sites.
Svetoslav Lyubomirov, executive director of Glavbolgarstroy International and member of the Supervisory Board of Glavbolgarstroy Holding, Eng. Konstantin Zlatev and Eng. Dimitar Telliev were present at the opening on behalf of the plant`s construction contractors. During the event, some of the armored cars that will be produced on-site were presented.
Production at the plant starts in early 2025 and is expected to provide over 300 jobs for the local area.
